New roofs explained
OnPoint RoofCare provides new and replacement roofs for homes across Motherwell and Central Scotland. A full replacement covers more than the visible slate or tile: the roof layers, ventilation, battens, flashings, ridges, valleys and edges all need to work together.
Problems to look for
You do not need to know the roofing term. Start with the sign you can see and tell us when it appeared.

Broken, loose or heavily weathered roof tiles across several slopes may point to wider covering failure.

A dip or change in the ridge or roof slope should be checked before a new covering is planned.

Leaks returning in different places and several old patches can mean the wider covering is deteriorating.
Send a photo of this problem →
Torn or brittle underlay may no longer provide a secondary barrier when rain gets below slates or tiles.

Wet insulation, stained rafters or musty loft timbers can indicate more than one roof problem.

We confirm the recommended work after checking the roof, access and surrounding details.
Before we quote
We check the part that looks damaged and the nearby roof details that may be causing or worsening the problem.
01Accessible rafters, trusses and other roof timbers are checked for movement, moisture damage and areas needing closer investigation.
02The supporting boards and secondary waterproof layer must be suitable before the new covering is fitted.
03Eaves, ridge or tile-vent details are considered so moisture is not trapped within the roof build-up.
04Lead flashing, valleys, roof windows, verges and gutters all affect the replacement plan.

Roofing knowledge
A new roof is a complete system, not just a fresh layer of tiles. Rafters, sarking or decking, breathable waterproof covering, battens, ventilation and the outer covering each have a job.

New roofs FAQs
These answers explain common questions before you request a quote.
Repeated leaks, widespread slate or tile failure, deteriorated underlay and extensive timber damage can all point towards replacement. The roof needs inspected before that recommendation is made.
Often, yes. A local repair may remain sensible when the problem is isolated and the surrounding covering is sound. Replacement becomes more relevant when faults are widespread or keep returning.
Sound natural slates may sometimes be carefully salvaged and reused. Their condition, size, thickness and the quantity available must be checked first.
The agreed work may include stripping the covering, checking the roof deck and timbers, fitting waterproof covering and battens, installing ventilation, laying the new covering and completing ridges, valleys, verges and flashing.
The timescale depends on the roof size, access, weather, materials and any damage found after stripping. A realistic programme can be discussed after the roof has been assessed.
Most full pitched-roof replacements need suitable scaffolding or another planned access system. The exact arrangement depends on the property and surrounding ground.
Natural slate, fibre-cement slate, clay tile and concrete tile each have different weight, appearance, pitch and fixing requirements. The choice should suit the property and roof structure.
Roof size, pitch, access, scaffolding, chosen covering, roof details, ventilation and the condition of the deck or timbers can all affect the quote.
